About The Association

Our Association was originally formed by the former crew of USS Lawrence DD-250. They eventually extended an invitation to the crew of USS Lawrence DDG-4 to become part of the organization. At the 2004 Reunion in Philadelphia, PA, the men of DD-250 ask the DDG-4 members to take over the Association, plan the reunions, and grow the Association. Over a period of 4 years the Association has grown to a point where the need came to become an official Non-Profit Veterans Association.

Our journey to Non-profit  status

On 17 July 2008, we filed Articles of Incorporation - Non-Profit with the Pennsylvania Department of State's Corporations Bureau. On 21 July 2008 we were notified that the USS Lawrence Association's request was granted. We were now a non-profit corporation!

We then filed as a Non-Profit/Tax-Exempt Organization with the Internal Revenue Service. On 26 July 2008, we were given a Employer Identification Number or EIN. This was required as we must file yearly reports with the IRS. The USS Lawrence Association is operating as a 501.c.19 Organization. This designation is for group like ours that are made up of past or present members of the Armed Forces of the United States.

The Pennsylvania Department of Revenue also required us to file for and obtain a PA Sales Tax License. The license was granted on 6 August 2008. We are required to collect PA Sales Tax of 6% on certain items we sell in the Ship's Store.

USS Lawrence Association Constitution & Bylaws

Because of our status as a Non-Profit Corporation, we were required to create a Constitution and Bylaws in which to guide the operation of the USS Lawrence Association. These bylaws were created by reviewing other ship association's bylaws, and using parts of theirs to create a working set for our Association. A copy of these bylaws can be found by clicking on the link below.
